The Cusco to Rainbow Mountain Tour is one of the most popular tours in Cusco, Peru. The tours to Vinicunca Peru are the second most sold in Cusco, after the Machu Picchu Tour from Cusco.
Discovered in 2016, Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain was covered under dense snow. When the snow started to melt, the colors began to appear. It soon got all the deserving attention. Vinicunca Peru receives thousands of visitors each day during the high season, so it’s one of the most famous attractions in the Cusco region.
With an elevation of 5040 meters above sea level (16535 ft.), the Cusco to Rainbow Mountain Tour demands good physical condition. It is highly recommended that you spend a few days in Cusco before your full-day tour to avoid altitude sickness.
The trek compliments fantastic views of the beautiful landscapes of the Peruvian Andes. The Cusco to Rainbow Mountain Tour takes between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, and it takes you through the highland farms with a sight of the snow-capped peak of the mighty Ausangate Moutain. It is the highest mountain in the region. To locals, it is a sacred Apus (height).
Our Cusco to Rainbow Mountain Tour takes you through a slightly different path than most others. This will allow you to enjoy the breathtaking views with fewer trekkers alongside.
We have dedicated local tour guides for the trek. As locals, they have in-depth knowledge of the Andean traditions and customs. Our tour guides are also trained in first aid, allowing them to give our trekkers immediate attention if they feel altitude sickness.
We operate the Cusco to Rainbow Mountain Tour in small groups and as private tours. Please take a moment to check out the reviews of those who visit the Mountain of Seven Colors with us.
If a high-altitude full-day hike is not your thing, then look at our Cusco to Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain Tour itinerary. Also, please take a look at our Lake Humantay Day Trip itinerary.
The best time to hike Vinicunca, Peru, is during the dry season. It is a part of the Andes Mountain range where the weather conditions are unpredictable. However, it is subject to two seasons, dry and wet seasons. The dry season is from March to November.

The trek-up is somewhat challenging. However, it is equally worth every step. You will be trekking through the remote Andean communities. You will get an insight into their traditions and their way of life.
People living here are untouched by modernity and have preserved their age-old traditions. In fact, most of them converse in Quechua, the native language.
You will also get to see Alpacas and Llamas and some distinct flora and fauna. Throughout the trek, you will be getting a closer view of the Ausangate mountain.
On reaching the summit, you will get a spectacular view of the distinctly colored mountain that gives this Rainbow Mountain its name. Our guide will be explaining the importance of the Rainbow Mountain and Apus Ausangate. This is an important mountain deity in the Andean cosmology.
To get the most out of your experience, you can also hike further to the red valley. However, please note that this is optional and can be done only if time permits.
After spending some time and soaking in the views of the seven stripped mountains, we will begin our hike back to the starting point of the trek. This will be through the same way we went up.
We will be serving you lunch before embarking on a drive back to Cusco city. We will arrive in Cusco by 05:00 or 06:00 PM.
From the starting point, it normally takes a 1.5 to 2 hours hike to reach the summit of Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. You will be gaining 390 meters.
